The Day I Realized Over functioning Was Not Strength

There was a season when I carried everything.

Emails.
Bills.
Deadlines.
Emotions.
Family needs.
Work pressure.
Other people’s expectations.

If something needed to be handled, I took it on.
If someone needed support, I stepped in.
If a ball dropped, I caught it.

I thought that made me strong.
But all it did was make me unseen.

Because when you overfunction long enough,
people stop checking on you.
They assume you’re fine.
They assume you’ve got it.
They assume you don’t need anything.

Chicago was where I realized I was tired of that version of myself.
I was sitting in a hotel room after a work event,
lights low, shoes off, heart wide open,
when the truth rose up.

Overfunctioning wasn’t strength.
It was survival.
And I wanted to live, not survive.

Soft Rhythm taught me a new kind of strength.
Strength with softness.
Strength with boundaries.
Strength that feels like me now

Hey there, I´m Jennifer

I help high-achieving Black women in midlife move out of performance mode and into a softer, body-led way of working, creating, and living.

This space is where I share what I’m learning, noticing, and practicing in my own reinvention…my Luxe Era.
